That Time They Really Put a Fork in It

First I was thinking of the radiant ones but what’s the point talking about them?  You encounter any in a lifetime, you’ve had yourself some spectacular golden kismet.  No point in getting all transcendent, especially not in the shower.  By the time I toweled off I’d conquered that attack of over-floweryness.

But still there’s an uncommon glow you do sometimes encounter in people.  And immediately I thought of Sarah Palin’s daughter.  And—paraphrasing Lee Grant in that movie—so where did I think she got it from?

They just couldn’t keep their hands off Palin, those political consultants, and I’m glad they ended up excluded from John McCain’s funeral and I hope it’s still roiling their kishkes.

They didn’t know how to appreciate an original of natural talent and intelligence and unmanufacturable charisma, so first they chose her and then they humiliated her throughout the course of that wretched campaign and then again in their self-assuaging books that are de rigueur for failed operatives everywhere.  What a goddamn rotten industry.

Too bad her time has passed.  Imagine her partnered with Trump.
