there's a worse one. a teenager with the same disease just died. she and her family fought the authorities for several years. they wanted her transferred to canada for treatment. the court-ordered psychological experts ruled that because she refused to accept that she was dying, she was incompetent to decide her own best interests.
i think it was never great. it took care of the basics. but if you're saved from medical-bill bankruptcies by lots of freely-provided substandard care so you endure lifelong poor health, it's not quite a triumph.
That isn't especially about the NHS as far as I can see. It seems to be about Valium, a nasty neuro-toxic drug that was prescribed to my mother for depression. She took years to wean herself off it.
the parent on another substack's comments thread boasting about the mountains his autistic son gets to climb with 24/7 caregiving so he can "live independently" knows that too.
This entire story makes me sick. What do you call this, if not a 'death panel' making medical decisions for others?!?!??!

"Dead" Man: I'm not dead.
Dead Collector: 'Ere, he says he's not dead.
Large Man: Yes he is.
"Dead" Man: I'm not.
Dead Collector: He isn't.
Large Man: Well, he will be soon, he's very ill.
"Dead" Man: I'm getting better.
Large Man: No you're not, you'll be stone dead in a moment.

And we all know how THAT skit ended, don't we?
they made sure of it.
Socialized Medicine: Bring Out Your Dead
oh the days of my innocence when I thought the nhs was a great and wonderful thing.
Wasn't it pretty great at one point and has declined significantly? The Kinks even wrote a song about it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NB-j-CBFWOM

From the hospital wards...
eugenicists on steroids.
As people say liking an article doesn't mean to say I like what happened. It is despicable.
Isn't this similar to Grace's murder? The hospital, doctor and nurses involved are being sued by her parents for premeditated murder.
this is a little different. the child was always ill and with no cure. treatment would be experimental.
To paraphrase, " It's not a homicide, it's a "choice""
it's expensive to care for everyone.
