Quite the nasty little expression, ain’t it? Mocking that primal need for skin-to-skin support even if there’s no actual skin involved. You bet I’ve always appreciated handholding through any rough stuff I’d still have to actually survive by myself. And I’ve been lucky. I got it when needed.
This prompted some memories from the births of our two daughters. The births weren't unusual, although our eldest daughter presented for a frank breach, doubled over so as to be the equivalent of a 15-pounder, and a rapid labor for our second daughter, so rapid I nearly missed the event.
