It won’t become a tourist site of course. It happened in a tourist site and ruined a lot of bookings.
The climate hysterics are having their fits cut short by increasing evidence it was the power company’s idiocy, corruption and greed that caused this one. Really bad for the cause, for a lot of extremely inconvenient reasons.
But there’s going to be quite a lot of lucrative hay made over the next several decades off of all those incinerated families found in Pompeii pose.
I wouldn’t make too much of the Democratic hands all over this one. Republicans wouldn’t have been any less stupid or venal.
Anyway a moment of silence for the dead. Horrible way to go. And no plaster molds will be made to memorialize the bones. That’ll be an improvement of course. I always think there ought to be some real respect for the dead, no matter how long ago they were separated from their mortal flesh.
When shit hits the fan, you can't count on government to save the day. At best, you hope they don't get in your way -- like the police barricading Front Street.
I am, shall we say, an early adopter or “accepter” of climate change. I have believed and accepted the basic conclusions concerning our role in the problem, and the need to embrace getting away from fossil fuels.
Beyond that, I was not pleased with seeing others jump through hoops to claim “climate disaster” for what happened in Maui. There are too many variables for any single event to make that claim. Now, it seems we hear this for every wildfire, hurricane, or heat dome.
